Executive Summary:
A crucial aspect of the American Dream is creating a brighter future for ourselves and our children. Vibrant communities and an economy that allows its citizen to generate income, enhance their skills and build assets are key elements to realizing this dream. Microenterprise and entrepreneur development enable underserved populations to become business owners, thereby creating a way for communities to create jobs, wealth and stability. Members of the Oregon Microenterprise Network (OMEN) are part of a bold alliance that works to provide diverse small and micro‐business owners from all regions of Oregon an opportunity to pursue and realize this aspect of the American Dream.
Now in its 10th year, OMEN is an organization with numerous strengths to build upon: a reputation for quality services, longevity in the small business field, a talented, committed Board of Directors, a skilled, passionate staff, a solid track record of fundraising success, numerous legislative and advocacy accomplishments, a growing membership, and a leadership position in the Oregon and national microenterprise/entrepreneurship sectors.
OMEN members represent the diversity of Oregon’s communities and range from stand‐alone microenterprise development programs to small business development centers, Community Action Agencies, community development financial institutions, social service agencies, Chambers of Commerce, community development corporations, Saturday Markets, universities, and entrepreneurs.
Over the next three years, OMEN intends to build upon its strengths, capitalize on opportunities outlined in this Strategic Plan, and minimize or mitigate weaknesses and environmental threats to the greatest extent possible. If past success is the best predictor of future performance, OMEN’s future is bright. With passion, hard work, and the engagement of OMEN’s enthusiastic membership, we will be successful in achieving the goals outlined in this plan – moving forward together.
